Appointment of Convener and Vice-Convener

Professor Stuart Macpherson’s term of office as Convener of the Business Committee is due to end on July 31st, 2020. He indicated he did not wish to stand for a second term. The Business Committee followed the procedures laid out in the Constitutional Arrangements.

Sir Philip Mawer was nominated unopposed and duly appointed to succeed Prof. Macpherson as Convener of the Business Committee from August 1st, 2020, to serve for four years in the first instance.

Gordon Cairns’ term of office as Vice-Convener of the Business Committee is due to end on July 31st, 2020. He indicated that he was willing to serve for a second term. The Business Committee followed the procedures laid out in the Constitutional Arrangements for the election of a Vice-Convener.

Gordon Cairns was nominated unopposed and duly appointed as Vice-Convener of the Business Committee from August 1st, 2020, to serve for a further four years.
