The Finance and Services Standing Committee met on 4 November 2024, (i) to hear from Mr James Saville, Director of HR at the University; (ii) to discuss the Committee’s work plan for 2024-25, and (iii) to discuss the General Council Budget for 2024-25.

The discussion with Mr Saville covered a wide range of issues, including an update on the recent review of hybrid working and flexible working practices, the current approach to recruitment, the University’s review of the pay grade scales and benefits, the upcoming staff satisfaction survey, as well as a discussion on the likely impact of the autumn 2024 budget update on the University’s financial position and the ongoing geopolitical issues.

The convener thanked Mr Saville for the very useful discussion with the Committee and his ongoing preparedness to engage with the Committee on matters of relevance to its remit.

The Committee’s two other meetings this academic session will be with the interim Director of Finance (in March 2025) and with Mr Gavin McLachlan, Vice-Principal and Chief Information Officer & Librarian to the University (in May 2025).
