Eligibility is restricted to members of the General Council who are not currently members of staff or matriculated students at the University of Edinburgh. Any queries about the appointment process or eligibility should be directed to Daniel Wedgwood, Head of Court Services at Court@ed.ac.uk.

Recruitment is overseen by a selection panel on which the General Council and University are equally represented.  The General Council representatives would normally include the Secretary of the General Council and the Convener of the Business Committee with a General Council Court Assessor or other appropriately experience member of the Business Committee.  The University representatives on the selection panel are appointed by the Nominations Committee.

Applicants are assessed on the skills and experience they could bring to Court with consideration of the equality and diversity of Court membership.
